Calin's 4th Birthday

Calin decided he wanted a Monster's party. And we had lots of fun putting it together! This was the first party Calin has had since he was 1. He's been asking about his birthday ALL YEAR. Almost every day! And counting down the days. So when it was finally here he was SOO excited!!

I made Sully and Mike Wazowski cupcakes, and a Mike Wazowski piñata. I also made Mike Wazowski game that they played. They had these little Moster's University characters that they tossed into it, getting more points for getting it in his eye and mouth. They also played a nerf gun dart game with the nerf guns Jordan gave him that morning as a present.

This was my first time making a piñata, and I could have used a few more tips. I made it way too sturdy. I was going to cut some of the tape before they started, but Jordan insisted that it wouldn't hold up long the way it was. I think all the kids got 3-4 turns before Jordan finally let me cut a bit of it open. And then it still took a while for them to bust it open.
Isn't it funny doing a piñata inside! It was around 110 outside, and just way too hot, so Jordan and our friend Kaulana rigged it up indoors for the kids. It actually worked out perfectly!

It was a small party and only a few of his friends made it. It was over labor day weekend so lots of our friends were out of town, and we had just returned home from our long CA/OR trip the week before so there wasn't a whole lot of time to plan and get invites out. But of course Calin didn't notice that only a few of his friends could make it, and all the kids had a blast!

And of course he's still asking everyday when his next birthday is :)

We had his party on Friday, the day after his birthday, so for his actual birthday we made sure to still make it lots of fun! We blew up around 60 balloons and put them all in his room as a surprise when he woke up. He thought it was the funnest thing ever. He opened a few small gifts before Jordan left for school, then we went to the park with friends before it got too hot. After the park we headed to the mall for Kids Club. They put on a little show for the kids, and they each get a toy and treat from Paridise Bakery. After the show they get to ride the carousel for free. And since it was Calin's birthday he got a free ice cream cone from DQ. After naps we picked up Jordan from school and headed to the movies to finally see Monster's University. Calin loved it!

Calin is such a fun kid!
He is a sweetheart, and he melts my heart everyday with the things he says and does.
Every morning he tells us we need to eat breakfast, say a prayer, and read our scriptures, before we do anything else.
He's such a good example, and teaches us a lot. He loves to help out with anything he can.
He LOVES baseball, soccer, and riding his bike.
He is mostly left handed, yet still switches off every once in a while.
His favorite foods are salami, cheese, pizza, chicken nuggets, burgers, fries, and steak.
He counts everyone he knows a friend.
He still takes afternoon naps :)
He loves his little sister, and is so excited for our next baby to be born!
He will sit for hours working on preschool/kindergarten activity books all by himself.
He loves to help clean up and gets upset if you start picking up without him.
He is a cool kid. You know those people who can come up with original things all the time and wonder how they can be so cool? Haha. I think Calin is like that. Here are two examples of things that he has come up with and have stuck through the years:
1. CHECK. He likes to check things off while making a check sign with is hand. When he's eating for example, he will list things on his plate, say "check" while making a check sign with his index finger and thumb (the sign is the cool part). "Chicken nuggets - check! Grapes - check! Carrots - check! Milk - check!" Anyway, maybe he picked it up somewhere, but I'm not sure where, and I think it's so clever that he makes a check sign.
2. He uses the word "Huge" as a synonym for cool. The way he does it totally works and i just love how he says "Wow, that's huge!" when he's excited about something.
There are so many things that I love about this little guy! He is so cute, and so fun, and we love him to pieces!!
