It's snowing, and I think I'm ok with it. It seems to have stayed warmer longer, so its final arrival has not caught me too much by surprise this year. I just hope it doesn't last till June.
{Sorry there are not pictures. Actually, this is a pretty boring post, so feel free to skip it}
Calin had his first dentist appointment this morning. Since he only has one molar in, they didn't do a fluoride treatment, but it we had a great consultation with the pediatric dentist.
Here are some things he said:
* no fruit snacks
* milk only with meals, and water the rest of the day
* he asked if Calin drinks juice from his sippy cup and when I said "no, he actually doesn't drink juice at all." he said, "count your blessings!" And really, Calin gets enough fruit in the day that he doesn't need juice, so I'll probably try to keep him away from it for as long as possible :)
* Luckily Jordan and I aren't too cavity-prone, but he said to becarful how much we share with Calin so we don't give him our bad cavity-causing bacteria :) I never even thought about that.
* Oh, and he said to use a tiny swipe of flouride toothpaste when possible, and to floss since Calin's teeth are so close together
Calin seems to be on a good track to healthy teeth, but we'll see. He used to love brushing his teeth, but it's become a bit of a fight lately. And his teeth are so close together that flossing needs to be a more frequent habit with him. Thankfully he doesn't go down with a bottle/sippy cup. But we do sometimes give him a snack at night if he wakes up (usually once a week), so that's just as bad. I need to work on breaking that habit!

I need to get Ty to the pediactric dentist too. I have put off his appointment so long. He has all his molars so maybe they'll give him the flouride treatment?
Yeah I need to be much better at brushing with Ty too. He likes it but I am not a consistent as I should be about doing it morning AND night.
Glad to hear Calin is on the right track with healthy teeth! Flossing his teeth is probably pretty hard huh?
Yup I think fruit snacks are how Madeline got her cavaties. I was so shocked when she developed a big cavaity that needed to be crowned (yes pediatric dentists recommend this even for baby teeth) especially since I still have not had one cavity. Anyways, so now I only get fruit snacks as a special treat on rare occassions. When Calin gets old enough start having him do an anti-cavity flouride rinse at night time before bed. We've been doing that this year and I think it helps kill all those bacteria. You can also go to the $1 store and buy those disposible floss holders. They're bright colors and shaped in different things, my kids like picking one out and flossing with them.
That's so good for Calin! I'll be taking my son to a dentist soon and it will be his first dental visit. I'm kind of excited about it since I really took good care of his baby teeth. I'm fortunate that I didn't have any difficulty searching for pediatric dentists in Nashua. A good friend highly recommended a Nashua dentistry for children clinic just a few miles away from home.
