Sitting on Strike

I was hoping to post Calin's 6 month stats with his monthly picture today, but was having some trouble getting him to sit next to the bear without playing with it. So I'll try again tomorrow.
And since it has been a while since I posted a picture of Calin, and I know the grandparents are looking for some, here are a few I took today.
Later I'll post more of what Calin has been up to recently, but for now you can see he is finally sitting up by himself. He got quite a few shots yesterday, and has some teeth coming in, so he is not as happy and easy as usual, but still has plenty of smiles to share.

I have now tried to feed him rice cereal, oatmeal and some baby food without any luck. I actually can't even get him to take any Tylenol for his fever. He used to be very interested in food, but now anything that has a flavor and is not mom's milk, he will totally refuse it. I've tried all different temps, different consistencies, and different times of the day, I've tried mixing it with different stuff. I've tried different spoons, I've tried letting him play with the spoons at play time and bath time. I've tried feeding him solids before I nurse him, in between, and after. Nothing seems to work. Each time I try, he opens his mouth really big for the spoon, tastes it, immediately spits it out, turns away, and refuses to open his mouth for the spoon again. He's still a big boy and very healthy, but come on! I can't have that picky of a baby already right?! I always thought food issues start when they're toddlers, and mostly have to do with the parents. But am I doing something wrong? The nurses and doctor's just say it takes time for them to get used to eating new things. But he was used to it, and really enjoyed it, then stopped. And once in a while he'll eat something again with no problem, and really like it. But then refuse it again for another week at least. Silly kid. Of course I keep trying, but if anyone has some good advise/insights, let me hear it :)

Dang I have NO expirience in that area, Sorry! I would say to not worry too much about it though, I dont think that he HAS to eat solid foods at his age right? Hopefully he isnt always this picky and stubborn...

It's obvious that he isn't starving though, that boy is getting so chunky! I LOVE his chubby cheeks!

Which teeth are coming in? Top? Bottom? Oh his smile will be so cute with some little teeth too. :)

I breastfed both Madeline and James for the first 12 months of their lives, do you plan on breastfeeding Calin that long? I believe I started both of them around 4-5 months on rice cereal. They didn't eat a whole lot of it but stayed consistent with breastfeeding. Solids readiness depends on both the maturity of baby’s digestive tract and baby’s developmental readiness for solids. I'm pretty sure the American Academy of Pediatrics says most babies are developmentally ready for solids somewhere between 6 and 8 months. So maybe Calin is just one of those babies that isn't ready and will start later. Sounds like he still has that tongue-thrust reflex, which might mean he's not ready. Has he mastered the “pincer” grasp? Or does he seem interested in your and Jordan's food? Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Like Mickie pointed out, he certainly isn't starving. So just relax and enjoy your nursing baby...before long he will be having a messy face of pureed peas or sweet potatoes and throwing cheerios on the floor! ;)

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. From what I learned in school and my nutrition classes you just need to listen to your baby. He might be telling you he isn't ready completely. When you should worry is if he isn't receiving what he needs and isn't growing well. Calin is growing great and just might not want to eat the solid foods now. Just keep offering it and he will let you know.
