We have another Spence nephew! Jordan's brother Matt and his wife Mickie had their little Ty on Wednesday the 10th. We obviously don't have any pics of him since we're in Jersey and they're in Utah, but hop over to their blog, and they'll have plenty! He's such a cutie! Congratulations you guys!
And our little guy is scheduled to come in 3 months! That's right, I am officially into my 3rd trimester, seven months along, and 3 more to go!! Monday I'm supposed to take my glucose test (with the yummy drink) and get a RhoGAM shot. Fun! But I am in the easy part of pregnancy, no more nausea, and no heartburn yet (I'm sure that's coming soon though!), and I still haven't been craving sweets (a huge miracle for me!). I think if I have any cravings, it's fresh fruit. I've had sooo many strawberries through this pregnancy, and now peaches are in season, and yum!! I just can't resist! I'm looking forward to raspberries and blackberries going on sale - that's coming right?
Well, I had the morning and afternoon off today, so I ventured out with Steph to hunt for some hidden treasure among the piles of junk at the local yard sales. Steph almost bought a toaster, but someone snagged it right before her. I came away with some good finds though. One, I'm not too sure about, so maybe you all can help me decide if this is good or not . . .
I definitely plan on nursing my kids, and I don't plan on working, but thought a pump would be convenient anyway, so I can still bottle feed? (I really don't know since I don't have any kids yet). But I don't think I would want a manual one, and the electric ones are sooo expensive! Especially since it's not a necessity. I know you can rent them too, but that's still expensive, and of course I wouldn't need it. Well, this lady had one at her yard sale (a nice yard sale, one where people don't even care about making money off things, they just want someone to take it) and I was talking to her about how you would go about sanitizing them (seems simple enough). She said she hardly used this one at all anyway, so I asked how much . . . $5. So I bought it, haha. I figured even if I don't use it it's only $5, and if I do, it's a steal right? It seems like a nice one. It came with a nice black bag, 6 bottles in a carrier with ice packs, all the instructions and manuals, and it's a double electric Ameda brand.
So what do you guys think? Good buy, or not? Is that weird purchasing a used one?? I wonder if I'll even use one. Hmmm....

Update:
So I checked online, and everything I read says not to buy/use a used pump (unless it's hospital grade). Even if you replace the parts and use the motor, it says if it's not a "closed system" pathogens can still get into the monitor contaminating it. I wonder if that's really something to worry about, and if it is too risky.
So what to do, what to do . . .

i have a used medela double electric. i only use the motor, if you ask, they should give you your own tubing at the hospital - at least they did for me. they say you're not supposed to use used - but just the shield and tubing. the motor's fine - that;s why they rent them out. good buy!
Wow I say it's a good buy! Like your friend said you can get new tubing. I nursed both Madeline and James. I pumped more with Madeline because I went back to work. I pumped twice a day at the office. I had just one of those $30 electric single pumps. They worked fine but I think I went through 2 of them because after a few months the motor burned out.
I remember with Madeline I used the pump because it took my milk 5 days to come in, it helped. If you're breastfeeding the baby feeding is like 99% on you so it's nice to have a pump and have the option of having someone else be able to give your baby a bottle if needed.
Hope the glucose test isn't too grueling for you and you pass. Ouch on the RhoGAM shot, I had to have that too. No way around that I guess. Post some new belly pics when you can!
The glocose test is NOT bad AT ALL. I dont know how it got such a bad rap! Oh and I LOVED fruit too while I was pregnant with Ty. That is ALL I wanted to eat. Good thing it wasnt junk food. :) Sounds liek things are going well only a few more weeks to go and Ty will ahve a little buddy! Any word on a name yet?
I'm glad everything is going well! We've been totally out of the loop! Garage sales can be so fun! I'm excited to start going to those! Sounds like you've had a great summer so far...we are excited for you!!!
I think it will be fine to use the pump like everyone said as long as you get your own tube and things like that. If you ever have any questions about breastfeeding; I am a breastfeeding peer counselor and would be happy to answer any questions. Hope everything is going great for you!
